Today, Instagram released their new logo. And if I’m being completely honest, their new logo sucks.
I love Instagram. It’s one of my favorite social platforms. So this blog is by no means a diss on Instagram as a product. But let’s be real, their new logo is horrendous. Don’t believe me, just look up their trending hashtag.
Even though Instagram’s new logo totally sucks, Instagram will be just fine. Most times when large companies do a rebrand it’s a big deal because the company themselves makes it a HUGE deal. This Instagram revamp literally came out of nowhere. Which in many ways is a good thing. There wasn’t any “expectation” or “hype” leading up to it.
Entrepreneur and Innovator Peter Theil has a great quote. “Beginning with brand rather than substance is dangerous.”
You know what? Peter is 1,000% correct. Branding is important, and the more seasoned I’m becoming as a marketer, I’m seeing that it’s essential. But all of it’s useless if your product or service sucks. Which like I stated above, Instagram is a great social platform. Instagram has substance.
Instagram’s new logo sucks, and that’s okay because of the substance and product Instagram has created. Instagram has changed the way we view the world digitally with our friends, and when it’s all said and done, we are ALL going to continue to use Instagram, even if they have a horrible new logo.
